Please note - I have had to put myself 'on vacation' for the holiday season (19th December - 4th January) as I will not have regular internet access during this time. Please DO NOT try to cheat the system by asking me questions via commenting on my past answers - I will never see them. I have probably answered a similar question to yours before, so please BROWSE MY PAST ANSWERS if you need help. As a general guide: if your guinea pig has stopped eating, is having fits, looks puffed up or listless, is bleeding, has lost weight suddenly or is squeaking in pain DO NOT DELAY in taking him/her to a vet - a specialist small animal or exotic pet vet if you can find one. If you suspect your guinea pig is pregnant, has mites, is losing hair or you have a question about diet, cages, toys, exercise etc. then look at my PAST ANSWERS. If you have been given guinea pigs as a Christmas present, go and buy The Really Useful Guinea Pig Guide by Myra Mahoney and Piggy Potions by Peter Gurney - these books will tell you everything you need to know to ensure your guinea pigs have happy and healthy lives. I look forward to helping you personally upon my return to AllExperts. HAPPY NEW YEAR!Available

I can answer questions with behaviour and what's something to expect at a time or what's normal what's not. I can give tips on common problems about boars or sows fighting/bullying. I may answer questions about mating although I do not recommend it if you have not researched about breeding guinea pigs as for some sows and unprepared owners, the pregnancy may be fatal to the mother and pups. You may ask me about C&C cages and housing, along with bedding material and what's recommended. I may answer a handful about dietary pellets, timothy hay, fresh fruit & veggies. I may help you out with home remedies that may be fixed at home like a common colds, mites, dandruff problems or itching..etc. Although with some illnesses I will be recommending a trip to the vet or asking you to be more descriptive as I do not want to provide the wrong information. I can help out with questions like if you live in a smaller space and cannot provide proper free range time, I have ideas for small spaces and cage ideas. I may give you instructions and advice on homemade toys or commercial sold toys and if they're safe before you try them out. I'm also able to answer boar 'issues' whether they're about bullying or just behaviour problems between boars, I have many ideas that can still allow both boars to be kept together and be friends, or about introductions when they first meet.I'm good at giving out advice about grooming short and long haired and nail clipping as my methods have also worked effectively. I give advice to owners with fussy guinea pigs that dislike getting trimmed nails and ways to help out. I'm good with keep the teeth kept down at a reasonable length to be able to chew as it is painful for guinea pigs with long teeth and may cause many problems. On Vacation

I am a trainee veterinary nurse and am confident in answering queries related to the general health and wellbeing of guinea pigs. I’m also able to advise on safe medication, proper nutrition, and behavioral issues. I can let you know what you need to discuss with and expect from your vet when taking your guinea pig for a visit. I have worked in an exotiques petshop and can recommend the best and newest products suitable for your guinea pig. I’ve also been involved in a small cavy stud and have knowledge in the breeding and showing of the rarer types of guinea pig. I have completed regular volunteer work with a cavy rescue organization and can offer advice on emergency home care and rehabilitation. In addition, I have kept my own guinea pigs for some years and can answer questions on most aspects of the general maintenance, the everyday care, and the requirements for a happy and healthy little pet. I also know what a comfort it can be to have an understanding and supportive fellow pig-lover to chat to when times get tough.Maxed Out

I can answer questions in areas of guinea pig breeding (I do not support or encourage irresponsible breeding), making C&C (coroplast and cubes) cages, grooming your short or long haired guinea pig, easier ways to clip their nails and simple ways to care for cavies constantly growing teeth. I can give advice for introducing guinea pigs to other guinea pigs, info regarding the best bedding to use for owners of cavies with allergies (I have allergies too!) etc.. I can help diagnose common illnesses like mites, lice and other skin problems, colds, bacterial infections, sow delivery problems, and some circulatory problems. I will always encourage and recommend a veterinary visit and veterinary treatment if I judge necessary. Although there are many common illnesses that can be treated at home without the time and cost of expensive veterinary bills. I recommend the website guinealynx.com, it's a great website with lots of accurate and helpful information for cavy owners. I am experienced and knowledgeable in the area of guinea pig/cavy diets. I can help you decide the best hay and dry food to use for your guinea pig, and also the healthiest veggies and fruits for your cavy and the correct portion to offer your guinea(s). If your looking to make or buy toys, cavy cuddles, hay racks etc. for your guinea pigs I can name the toys that guinea pigs prefer over others and also how to make some toys and beds that are safe and fun, from items that you probably have around your house. I've owned guinea pigs for a long time and I can answer most questions about other things that come along with owning a guinea pig that I haven't mentioned in the above. Just ask! If I don't know the answer to your question, I will do my best and go out of my way to find a safe and accurate solution. One thing I cannot do is tell you why your guinea pig died. There are too many causes and reasons possible.Maxed Out

2009-01-06  breeding:   Hi Andrea, She should be okay. I'd say 12-16 weeks is best for first-time Mums, but an 8-weeker should be alright. Take the male out now though, as if he continues to mate with her once she is pregnant...
2009-01-06  panter or no panter:   Hi Ashley, Guinea pigs are much happier with another guinea pig. They are social creatures and a cagemate gives them someone to chatter to, snuggle up with and play with. Make sure the guinea pigs are...
2009-01-06  Guinea Pig:will she eat babies?:   Hi Sierra, No. Guinea pigs are strict vegetarians and if you were to feed them bacon it would upset their delicate digestive systems and make them very unwell. If your guinea pig is pregnant you just...
2009-01-05  Pregnant guinea pig:   Hi again Hanna, No, female guinea pigs are very tolerant of new babies if they witness the birth. You’d have a problem if you were keeping males in with the pregnant female, though. They wouldn’t intentionally...
2009-01-05  2 pregnant guinea-pigs:   Hi Cathy, They should be fine to be pregnant at the same time, and to have all their babies in the same cage. You will probably find that they help each other out – with the non-Mother helping with...
