| My main field of expertise in in traditional ballads - those commonly known as the Child
ballads. Those containing executions are my particular speciality, but I am also interested
in ballad structure formula, functions and narrative constructs. However, I also have
interest in - and academic knowledge of - bothy ballads, and the singing tradition of
Scotland - although not Gaelic song. This includes Jacobite song, political song, songs
about the trades, and so on. I'm pretty au fait with traditional singers and bands too. And
while I enjoy singing the songs, I'm not so sure others might enjoy listening! | Available Ask A Question View Past Answers |

| Folk Music, particularly the Child Ballads and that great body of industrial and work-related songs which arose during the Industrial Revolution. I am well-versed in the history of the Folk Revival, and I have a particular interest in political and agit-prop songs, as well as in traditional Irish dance music. For ten years I was a committee member and resident singer/song-writer/musician with the Grey Cock Folk Club in Birmingham (the pre-eminent traditional club in the English midlands, which was founded by Charles Parker of `Radio Ballad` fame). | Available Ask A Question View Past Answers |
