Hi Julie, I believe it will depend on the severity of your son's asthma and what medications he's taking. He should obtain a medical certificate from an Aviation Medical Examiner before he starts training
You don't say that you were a RATED pilot, but from the number of flight hours I assume you were. The section of the FARs you want to look at is 61.73, which deals with requirements for former military
The short answer is "none." All certificates and ratings are based entirely upon flight training and testing. Airlines and other employers may set their own standards, and some may require a college
