Housebreaking, chewing, feeding Most medical questions are best handled through a local vet. I try to base my answers on carefully proven methods confirmed by my own experience. Much of what I know about dogs, I have learned raising a puppy every year since 1991 for a large dog guide school. I am familiar with several similar programs. Nobody is in a better position to know dogs, need ones with long, active life, and share what they know, than the service dog schools. In addition I have done extensive reading. My answers have much more to back them than the limited experience any one dog owner can have. PLEASE DON'T SEND ME MEDICAL OR BREEDING QUESTIONS. An internet forum is not the appropriate place for them. Even if I could tell what was wrong from a handful of symptoms, you would still need to get the medications from your local vet. Breeding should be left to those not needing to ask simple, basic questions. Books have been written about it. Rather than ask me a question, start reading. Those unwilling to do the work it takes to produce quality puppies should spay/neuter their pets at 6 months. I will not .....

I'm happy to answer questions about the Labrador Retriever breed and about temperament, basic information about field lines versus show lines, training your Lab, grooming your Lab, and what it's like to live with a dog breed that's smart and versatile, but isn't for everyone. I can answer questions about conformation, showing, and breeding for the betterment of the Labrador Retriever.

I am at the fringe on bathing dogs. I seldom if ever do. Our Lab Aster spent the last 5 years of her life with us without a single bath. She did swim in the river sometimes. She was brushed regularly

2009-11-18 regarding my 40 dys old lab puppy:

It must be different in India, because in the USA, breeder are not allowed to sell pups before 49 days, preferably 56. Anything before 49 is really tough on them developmentally. The bath is fine.

2009-11-16 shedding:

Not everything you read is true. Does your friend's shed any less on the new diet? Wheat allergies are much less common than what those selling wheat free foods suggest. Short haired dogs shed badly

2009-11-16 chewing when left:

6 months is about the age they start getting in trouble again. Just crate the dog again. I find many folks get lazy and think they have the perfect dog when it's just a few weeks old, and then think

2009-11-14 Black lab aggression:

That is really outside my experience. It is possible the yellow Lab is challenging him in subtle ways you don't see, body position, eye contact, head position, etc. The black one then fighjts back.
