Questions about jewelry manufacturing, gemstones, diamonds, the precious metals, industry trends, purchasing, quality, care and maintenance, appraisals, insurance, stone cutting, jewelry repair, etc. I am NOT equipped to answer questions about age or value of a piece without seeing it in person, and even then, I am not an expert in antiques. Nor am I an expert in stamps or marks that are inside the jewelry. There are hundreds of thousands of manufacturer's out there and then you factor in the number of years a piece of jewelry can circulate, it becomes an enormous amount of possibilities. I am really not the right person to ask about such markings.

Have a question about jewelry repair or working with precious metal jewelry and gemstones? For many years up to December 31, 2010, I was a working professional bench jeweler, involved everyday with setting stones in mountings, designing and making jewelry, repairing and limited custom manufacture. If you work with jewelry as a hobby or as a profession, I might be able to help. I deal with the retail business, not mass production. Ask privately if you wish. See the box for that: It keeps your question between us. Please DO NOT ask MAKER'S MARKS, but metal quality marks are fine to ask. Please DO NOT ask diamond prices. See a gemologist for that.

We are collectors, hobbyists and dealers in memorabilia and antiques - especially antique vintage and costume jewelry items. For 10 years we owned an antique shop here in Central Florida but retired and reopened a site on the internet that specializes mostly in antique jewelry and accessories such as perfume bottles, etc. Bill is informed on general antiques specializing in china and silver or sterling tablewares while Sally tends to jewelry and paper/advertising ephemera. We receive a lot of general questions from our site and would be glad to try and answer or give direction not considered for official appraisal purposes, i.e. estate or insurance. |
Jeremy, The direct answer to your question is “no”. Colored platinum alloys including pink variations are not on the market and if any are being experimentally worked in a proprietary way the market
Naomi, That's a fun and interesting topic on which to write a research paper. I hope you enjoy researching the topic and what you learn from it. I'm afraid that most of your questions would require
Hi Tina, More than likely when the ring was sized those stones got to hot and discolored, this happens frequently in sizing a ring with stones. I would recommend that you return to the jeweler that
Dear Holly, Quite honestly, trying to advise on how to find a reputable jeweler is a difficult task. Most of what defines the reputable jeweler is relatively obvious but is not always that easy to
Hi Anna, from what you have mentions I would assume that your ring is made out of silver, since the stamp 925 is used to indicate the purity of silver (92.5%). RSC can possibly mean RS. Covenant, a jewelry
