Expertise

I can assist you with common problems and over-looks when assembling your pc. I can also assist with basic and advanced OS errors (XP & XP Pro Corporate are my specialty). My main weakness is Mac, and any other non-windows based operating systems. I'm also really rusty on anything prior to 98SE. I can offer advice on a range of software, codec, and driver needs. If you need help finding the right software for a job chances are I can point you toward it.

What do you like about this subject?

I like to be challenged with new questions and problems. I've already had to do a little bit of learning to adequately answer some of the questions presented to me.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

The practical application of chemical-based data transfer technologies.

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

if you're buyin a new mobo and you really don't want to reformat and reinstall windows, or you need to buy some time to back up files before you do, then try to find a mobo with the same BIOS type as your last one. 9 times outta 10 you can avoid a reformat this way, and since there's only a handful of different widely-used BIOS's out there it's not as hard as you might think to find a good match.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

1 MILLION THANKS FOR ALL THE GOOD FEEDBACK!!! YOU GUYS ALL ROCK HARD!!!

you most likely have hardware failure. probably the motherboard, but it could also be the power supply. just to rule out the simple things though you should try another computer power cord if you have

yeah that's a bummer with getting a new mobo. even if you hadn't replaced the HDD and kept the one with the older XP installation you'd probably still be reinstalling as mobo replacements often require

2009-07-06 motherboard/west. dig hd:

hey llb, 250W is a very low capacity psu. an fx5200 isn't the most power hungry card out there but coupled with the sata drive and p4 it might be sucking too much juice for the psu to perform well

2009-07-06 Hardware problem:

hey thsan, if you've ruled out the hard drive already then i would start looking at ram as the most likely culprit. if you have 2 ram sticks installed try uninstalling them 1 at a time to see if one

hey moil, yeah they still do. go to the link i'll provide below and look at the top-down view of the motherboard. there is an orange heatsink that says black series on it; to the right and below of
