Yes IE8 it appears is not stable as I think its still Beta , so I have not tested it properly. IE7 is much better , I would roll back to IE7 it should be in the ADD/Remove appelet to allow uninstall
the problem more likely is with your anti-virus software ,and/or your firewall setting they might be blocking the email attachment. because as far as I know, TrendMicro's anti-virus does creates

One single line answer is, you obviously are missing the required plug-in. normally its wmp.dll and wmpdxm.dll or something similiar ... now i have two issues , one your OS, and two your browser
All the symptoms of a virus infected System..... at least something which has messed up with your browsers security settings.... ..if you have installed , any anti-spyware , before these thing started
