I can answer technical questions about large or small offset printing presses. I can solve trapping of inks, touch-up of plates, sequence of inks on particular problems. Special mixes. Plate problems. Print on plastic. UV inks and coatings. I am sheetfed only. Not web press. Not expert in pre-press, but knowledgeable. Have done repairs like fix holes in cylinders. Some electrical. Small presses and up to 48 inch eight units with coaters and UV inks. Heidleberg and Meihle presses my specialty.
Over forty years in the printing industry. Worked in over 30 shops part time while holding down my full time one. Was hired part time mostly to get shops running and solve their problems. Gained knowledge and tricks of the trade from most shops.
Certificates from Printing Industries of America. Was a member of the Graphic Arts Union AFL-CIO. Union negotiator in Boise, Idaho.
Went to Meihle School in Chicago to learn computorized printing presses. Went to ink seminars and trade shows. Was given private tutoring from Heidleberg Corporation on new computorized five color 40 inch offset. Included plate and sheet readers and remote ink fountain controls.
Found out I was the most awarded pressman at Tokyo Japan International Printing competition. (Found out from other shops, my employer hid this from me, their excuse was I already was the highest paid pressman in Idaho and they didn't want to lose me.) Gave up my invention that helped presses go faster than 6,000 rpm, to Meihle Corporation. To help the industry. Refused compensation. (Cylinder pre-print blurr, fixed with an airbar.) They came back one year later with a movie of development in airbar sheet guides that the said revolutionized higher printing speeds. (Deseret News Press printing department.)
