You can strip off your old finish better, if you know the finishing type. You can try to wash off your old finish with acetone, if it is melt and resolved, then you can wash the whole pieces without chemical
Yes it is. Your alcohol solved the finish and then your finish was removed. You may try to fix it without re coating. Try to rub your damaged part with steel wool. Use the dry steel wool and do it carefully
