I am a retired K-12 Public School Principal (23 years), a teacher and counselor(8 years) and an educational consultant. Lynn, If your child is academically ready for 1st grade I certainly would not hold him back because of lack of ability to focus (a common issue with a lot of kids) and certainly not due to physical
Most children are ready to go by age 5 especially if they come from a supportive family and have had preschool. I would not be worried about the fine motor, size discrimination or the slight pronunciation

Jen, I would not recommend that you double punish your child for things that happen at school if the school has already done something to intervene. Discipline him for things that happen outside of
