Expertise

I specialize in information on teaching sign language to both deaf and hearing children. I also have a background in Early Childhood Education, Montessori, Teen Unschooling, religious education, and teaching hearing impaired. I have two independent-thinking grown children who homeschooled during part of their childhood. I will include links to web site resources when appropriate.

Experience in the area

Two wonderful independent-thinking children. Certificates in Montessori training, Unitarian Universalist Religious Education training, and early childhood development.

What do you like about this subject?

Options for education is in the best interest of the children since each one is different. Rather than molding and shaping them, we can bring out their best potential.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

Each child is a wonder and I hope to have deep relationships with many.

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

Homeschooling will become easier and easier with all the resources and tools available to us, but the most important resources that need to be cultivated are relationships and communities with whom you can share your lives and learnings.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

Some people homeschool because there's not enough religion in the public school. Some people homeschool because there is too much of only one religion. Some people are not at all anti-public school, but homeschool for reasons not related to the public school situation.
