I can answer every question anyone has! I am always willing to hit the books for other owners! I and my husband between me have 6 guinea pigs and one expecting, that we intend to keep 2 of. I can help with idle questions, everyday problems to serious health problems but I always suggest seeing a vet!

Experience in the area

I have had 14 guinea pigs in my life with more to come. I have volunteered at the local shelter just to work with the small animals on a weekly basis and I have been to countless vets to soak up there advice, as well as looking in my 50 something books on guinea pigs. I know almost everything I can wrap my head around about guinea pigs! Sometimes my husband, who is an exotic bird vet/guinea pig fanatic helps me with the questions to!

Organizations

None. Unfortunately ;)

Education/Credentials

I have taken community courses for pet care, including small animals, but I have not been to school formal education (I am not a vet). Currently I am in the process of becoming a published author and I have my degree in creative writing. Someday I will have my masters. I teach local classes for advanced creative writing and literature for teens.

What do you like about this subject?

I LOVE guinea pigs. I want the world to love them, and to stop eating them ;) !

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

Guinea pig females actually eat less when they are pregnant, not more as many owners think is a sign :) !

2009-12-12 How to make 2 guinea pigs bond?:

Hello!  I suggest putting them in a cage with a divider. This works best with C&C cages. Put a see-through divider between there living spaces so that they can see, smell, talk to and touch each other

2009-12-12 nose:

Hello!  Is it a white patch just above the nose? I put in a picture of my late guinea pig Cappuccino, look at her nose. Is it similar? If it is, its just a birth defect and shouldn't be poked at, normal

2009-12-11 Classroom pet guinia pig- rash:

Oh my, get him to the vets!!  This is a serious case of mange mites, not contagious to humans but very VERY horrible for piggy's.  Taking him to the vet might get him some bandaging, cream, hair removal

2009-12-10 Guinea pig..... stuff.... I don't know how to explain it.... sorry:

Well the best time to mate is 4-6 months old. Guinea females can become pregnant at 2 weeks though. After one year the hip bones fuse up and are difficult to be moved apart when the birth happens. This

2009-12-10 guinea pig tooth- a problem:

Hello!  I apologize for the wait! I forgot to mark myself as 'on vacation'!  One word, Vets! Yep, time to see a vet (if you already haven't) to get a check for fungal infections and over growth. There
