Expert Profile: Jessica

Expertise:  I have bred Siamese cats and have years of experience caring for homeless, feral, orphaned, and terminally ill cats. I am knowledgeable in cat behavior, health, history, troubleshooting, breeds, coat patterns and colors, and trivia.

Experience in the area
I have extensive experience with cats ranging from breeding to at-home medical care to rescuing homeless cats and placing them in homes. I have assisted cats giving birth and hand-nursed kittens who were neglected by their mother from 2 days old through weaning. I have given supportive care to cats suffering from terminal cancer, feline leukemia, feline infectious peritonits, and kidney, liver, and heart failure. I have been through chemotherapy with one of my cats who had lymphoma and have also been through many cutting edge surgeries with my special needs cats. I'm an avid cat show attendee and can give you info on the ins and outs of showing.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?  I am learning things every day through networking with other cat lovers and through research. I hope to learn new information as it becomes available and will strive to be educated in the most up to date health issues. I also hope to further my knowledge in feline genetics.
Something controversial or provocative about this subject  Declawing is widely accepted in the United States. But if you take a closer look at the procedure and its lasting effects, you'll realize that it's actually animal cruelty. And many countries have already outlawed it as such.
Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:  Cats have the estimated IQ of a two-year-old child and have the ability to understand a vocabulary of 36 words or more!
