Experience in the area

Licensed contractor in Closter New Jersey.

Education/Credentials

"The Frank Williams School of Electrical Construction". My dear old boss is 96 and still going God Bless him. I started working for "Tenafly Electric" right out of high school at 19. He was tough but I learned more working for him in 8 and half years than most guys. We did mostly industrial work while doing some commercial and residential so I was fortunate to be exposed to all 3 areas of electrical construction. The guys I worked with were all good guys and I stay in touch with some of them still. Most of us went into our own buisness's which says something about the caliber of the guys I worked with. We had some interesting clients : Wella Corp. of shampoo fame, Farah Fawcett etc, I didn't buy shampoo for 10 years, it was a great place to work. Pan Am the X airline just before they went under, another great place to work, nice clean environment. C&C Metals, the largest button manufacturer in the US, a not so clean environment but a very interesting place to work, lots of machine's cranking out buttons of all kinds but you had to be on your toes, it was a potentially dangerous place to be . All kinds of action going on around you.

What do you like about this subject?

I enjoy what I do, different customers and places help keep it fresh.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

The learning never stops and I strive to find ways of doing my work better and more efficiently using specialized tools, new products and a different approach to doing things the same old way.

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

Its amazing to me the number of people who ask questions and don't thank you or even acknowledge you, like "Hello" , "Hi", or maybe, "Hey Bob", they just start right in with the question like we're machines here. Sort of makes you think about getting out of this business of helping the rude and ungrateful for free. But to those of you who have expressed a "thank you", its my pleasure.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

If your one of those individuals who "paste's" their question to every single guy here and as soon as your question is answered you quickly forget the other 7 or so who took the time to field your question then don't waste my time or theirs. Getting a second opinion is one thing but not 10 or more.

2009-11-06 Grounding:

Paul, What the inspector said is correct. You do need to run a separate wire from the water meter to the panel as long as the cold water pipe is not plastic in which case you would not need to do anything

2009-10-31 Buzzing from service panel:

KC, Sticking a shop vac in there isn't a bad idea, just make sure its plastic. The breaker may not be attached properly on the opposite end from where it attaches to the buss. Try reattaching it

2009-10-31 AFIC tripping once a week:

Rich, When you installed the sub panel do you have a separate ground bar (terminal) for the bare ground wires that is not bonded (connected) to the neutral block (white wires) inside the sub panel.

2009-10-30 Buzzing from service panel:

KC, It looks like you've had some critters in there. The buzzing could also be coming from the main but its more likely the breaker for the AC. The buzzing is typical of a large load first starting

2009-10-29 THHN wire:

Gilbert, It depends upon the size of the load on each respective size wire you have listed. In other words a 5 amp load on 14 THHN can go a longer distance with less voltage drop than a 15 amp load
