Have personally been to Chinese Engine factories several times Former Day to Day job is in application engineering of 4 cycle Engines. Evaulation, testing and failure diagnosis of Chinese Engines,Briggs and Stratton and Kohler engines daily. In other words I do this everyday.
30 Years in OPE industry. Briggs and Stratton Master Service Tech, Master Parts Pro. Former owner of OPE dealership servicing and selling Honda, MTD, Murray, Husqvarna, Toro, Lawnboy, Shindaiwa, Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, and Tecumseh. Previous job as trainer for engine manufacturer performing service training for companies like SEARS, HOME DEPOT, LOWES, TSC, etc. Instructor for Technical College.

Troubleshooting is challenging, but very rewarding.
Why is it that Microsoft can have a product (IE Windows XP)that will sunset/expire with no further tech support available, but people expect to be able to buy parts and service thier lawn and garden equipment that is 30+ years old?

I would do a valve job as you indicate. When you switched out the carb, did you switch it out with a new one? a known working one? Be careful spending to much money on repairing this engine, many
Bill If you go to any MTD dealer they can get your parts for this mower. As long as you have spark its okay. It should be fine. There is no honda Copy of this engine that i know of. You can locate
Hi Bill The compression is correct for your engine. Your engine is equipped with a mechanical compression release when starting. The compression needs to be between 25 and 40psi. You do not have
Tom That is a vent. You can not plug it off. You can however take a piece of small fuel line about 6 or so inches long and stick it on there to allow for proper venting. you can even put a Course
