Hi Thomas, We had similar issues a few years ago and it turned out to be a corrupt font. I keep a minimum of fonts loaded on my system (see list) these plus Helvetica, which I manage through our Font
Hi Del, The rulers look like they are set to picas. You can change this in Preferences>Units and Increments. There are 6 picas to an inch so the text boxes look to be about an inch from the spine.

Hi Ramesh, The problem is in flattening the transparency in your document. Try exporting your pages as .eps files and dropping them on your printer as this will flatten the pages before the printer
Hi Del, Once you have a story ready to place and your cursor changes to the "loaded" cursor, if you click in an existing text frame, the story will fill the frame. If you click and drag out a frame
