For about 15 yrs., I have been "specifically" attempting to do some of my "own" family research. I have been concentrating on the Southeast US and certain "surnames" maybe I can help a few people. Especially perhaps in the DC/VA/NC/MD states-going back to in some cases the 1700s.

Experience in the area

I have been doing research in the VA/MD/DC/NC area's of the US.
I also, have been doing some -research on certain "Old Virginia" families.

Southern Heritage

Self-taught, whereas genealogy is concerned.

What do you like about this subject?

Have been keeping my "I out" 4 certain "surnames-with a growing # 4 about 15 yrs.,. I also, do few "Surnames" -am a "list-holder at

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

FOREVER-AN "ON-GOING field 4 me. Have not found out many the "things-I myself have been looking 4

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

Southern Heritage pt of "background -U will find that many "Southern "Records" R missing & a lot of "guess-work required. Don't B "afraid of "mistakes- "they R inevitable.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

Many do not like 2 "address" the issue Southern Heritage- in the US 4 "political reasons" This is not me- due 2 this some records have I believe, been "missing or destroyed.

2015-05-28 How to confirm a census record is that of your ancestor:

The one I found at 1850 census, could very well be her-although it's in NC.   She and her family are NOT listed as "slaves" but farmers.  About the right age.  I copied that 1850 census

2014-10-10 The surname Cone and it's relation to mulatto people of the Carolinas and Virginia:

I'm not going to pretend to answer all the questions, that I would see here.  However I assume you know that Lumberton, NC, was named after the LUMBEE Indians.  They had a reservation right in Cumberland

2014-06-13 The Cone surnane in the and the wiregrass region mulatto family:

In my opinion she has SOME resemblance to a "high cheeked" INDIAN. That's surely a NOVCIE opinion-though.    I've met a few LUMBEE, while living in Fayetteville, NC.  They were still on their "own" reservation

2014-03-30 NC death:

I didn't find a death record for this person, rhough if it were late in 2013, it may not have shown up yet- in the places I was looking.    I found a few items with that name, you may find of interest
