Let me help you with questions about online programs and what is expected of an online student or instructor. I am an instructor as well as a student in an online program. If you are looking for a program or have questions about online learning in general, I can guide you. If you are a teacher looking for new ideas or methods, I can help. I have resources and ideas to share. I am a member of the National Business Education Association (NBEA), a professional organization devoted to the recognition that business education competencies are essential for all individuals in today's fast-changing society.

Experience in the area

I am an instructor at the University of Phoenix, working in online and classroom modalities. I am also a student at Northcentral University, where I am working on a PhD in Business Administration, with a specialty in Management. My MBA is from Troy University, 2001, and I have a BS, Environmental Science, from Troy University, 1980. Read about my experiences as an online student at my blog thinkPhD.

What do you like about this subject?

The online learning environment is a flexible and powerful way to learn. It gives students who may not be able to attend "regular" classes an opportunity to advance their education.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

An online class is very different from a standard classroom because each student must participate in some way. I work with other instructors to discover the most effective methods of learning. Finding innovative ways to encourage this participation is a challenge to the online instructor.

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

The Sloan Consortium reported this year that almost 3.5 million students were taking at least one online class during the 2006 fall term. In addition, the 9.7% growth rate for online enrollments exceeds the 1.5% growth rate for the overall higher education population.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

I have had students to tell me they were surprised that they learned so much more in the online class than they did in their standard classrooms. Many core college classes have end up in large lecture halls with upwards of 400 students. The online class is far superior to these giant classes!

Hello Scott, Thanks for asking a question. Bookkeeping is really just a part of accounting training. I always recommend attending an accredited institution - do not be tricked into signing up for some
