Expertise

I can answer questions about violin and guitar making and restoration. I will not answer questions about playing these instruments, because I am a maker, not a player.

Experience in the area

I was trained in violin making in Germany and have been working at this craft for sixty years.

What do you like about this subject?

I enjoy making and expiermenting on different types of string instruments. There is something new every day as well.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

I'm always looking for the way to make instruments less labor intensive.

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

The top and back of a violin is carved from a piece of solid wood about 1.25 inches thick.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

There is a great deal of myth about Stradivari and his violins.
