Automotive/Expert Profile

Expertise

I can usually answer how to fix automotive problems or at least how to troubleshoot the problem on most cars and trucks. I specialize in mechanical and electrical work, but do occasional paint/body/fabrication work. I'm from the U.S., so, I might not be able to answer specific questions from 'non-North American available' vehicles.

Experience in the area

I am an ASE certified master automotive technician for 15 years with a degree in automotive technics and business management. For the last 20+ years I've worked on just about everything with an engine or wheels. I have owned and operated an automotive repair business since 1993. I can also help with information about Pa. state inspection and the Pa. vehicle code.

Organizations

Formerly held a NASCAR license and built/maintained race cars.

Education/Credentials

Degree in Automotive techics and business management, as well as ASE certified master technician, PA state inspection license, completed trainings from Bendix, Bear, Moog, PDQ and countless others.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

Everything. The primary reason I'm a volunteer on this site is to help people while I sometimes learn a thing or two myself from the research I sometimes need to do in order to give the answer expected of me.

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

Garrett A. Morgan, the inventer of the first traffic light, never learned to drive a car. He also invented the 'gas mask'.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

The "black smoke" seen coming out of diesel equipped vehicles is safer for the environvent than the exhaust from gasoline powered vehicles.

Hi Janae!    Sometimes the float that controls the sensor goes bad or get stuck. Especially when you run empty on fluid. I believe that there is only one sensor for that and it is a two wire 'on/off' switch

2010-12-21 1999 Z71 steering trouble:

Hi Adrian!    The power steering pump usually doesn't make a noise like that. However, the serpentine belt tensioner will and is a common problem. Especially in cold weather. It's very difficult to diagnose

2010-12-20 98 blazer electrical issue:

Hi Jamie!    The IGN A fuse should come off of the Ignition switch. My books aren't being very precise about exactly what all it controls. One diagram says that there is a 40 amp fuse for the starter relay

2010-12-19 headlights:

Hi Lawrence!    The problem is likely either in the headlight switch or a short in the wiring. You could try a 'wiggle test' all along the wiring harness and see if there's any change. Otherwise, you'll

2010-12-18 adding fuel to gas tank:

Hi Don!     You MAY have 2 different problems.    1) It's hard to say for sure without looking at it, but you may have to attach a fuel pressure gauge to see why it doesn't start right up. It may be possible
