That one can gain so much from the study of the Martial Arts... Discipline (of Body & Mind,) Respect (for oneself and others,) Strength (Physical, Mental, & Spiritual,)Flexibility (of Mind & Body,) Harmony (of Mind, Body & Spirit.) Taught Properly the Martial Arts will enable you to defend yourself and your loved ones.
Although I hold little hope for it's achievement, I will always work toward bringing my Mind, Body, and Spirit into Perfect Harmony.
"What is the Best Martial Arts Style?" The one that works best for you personally.
A student primarily trained in the Physical aspects of the Arts with little to no training in it's Mental and Spiritual aspects will be hard pressed to overcome adversity and the unexpected. A student primarily trained in the Mental and Spiritual aspects of the Arts who's physical training has been philosophical rather than practical will not be prepared for a "Street Confrontation."
