Expertise

I am knowledgeable about English history from about 1400 to 1688, and then from the reign of Victoria (after 1837). I have a particular interest in the monarchy and dynastic relations of Europe from 1800 onwards. I cannot answer questions regarding the latter Stuarts, the early Hanovers, and the politics of the 18th century.

What do you like about this subject?

Monarchies make the political life of a nation more vibrant for me. I am always fascinated by the influence the one institution has upon the other.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

Its evolutionary nature means that there will always be more to learn.

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

People will often say that a particular monarch can trace his or her ancestry back to William the Conqueror. But so can most of the people of Western Europe.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

What WAS in that warming pan brought to the Queen's bed in 1688?

Hello Cynthia,    What I would do is take it to an antiquarian book dealer.  I don't know where you are in Florida, but they are usually listed under "Books" in the Yellow Pages.  There will probably be

Hello Trista,    I am sorry for the delay, but I admit to being stumped by this one.  I spent the past two days researching for this title - not only had I never heard of it, but nor had any of my colleagues

This is a very broad answer Katie, but essentially there were two:  the Church and the Monarchy.  Beyond that, there was little government as we understand it today, and little time for anything else.
