Expert Profile: Marvin Howard

Expertise:  I consider myself to be a "doctrine specialist" if there is such a thing. I offer scripture to support or refute (as needed) any doctrine practiced within what is commonly termed "Christianity" today. This includes catholicism, which is actually the first denomination, or offshoot of Christianity. Yes, you read that right, there is a church that preexists catholicism. It wasn't founded after, as was protestantism. And, it is still in existence today

Experience in the area
I became a Christian on April 7, 1969. I have been a substitute, spur-of-the-moment preacher for thirty years. I am currently the minister for the congregation in Braswell, GA. My sermons have always contained at least fifty percent scripture. On occasion, I have preached in seven states, and four foreign nations. This is beside my online ministry.

What do you like about this subject?  While I am not a history expert, I can run research to find out about when a practice was introduced into the apostate religions, especially catholicism. Would you like me to find this information as well? There is a new Christian sattelite network beginning 11-26-05: http://www.GBNTV.org . Look for it.
What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?  We all continue to grow if we are faithful. When we stop growing, it is time to take a deep look at ourselves.
Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:  There is a prophecy relating to churches of Christ of which many are unaware. In 533 A.D. pope John II was named "Lord of the Church." This completed catholicism's break from the church, and sent us into hiding; "The Dark Ages." Revelation 12:6 says the church would remain in this wilderness "1260 days." In 1793 (1260 years after pope John II) the Restoration began. We became known again.
Something controversial or provocative about this subject  A chapel is a church building, right? "A Cappella" translates from Latin to "Of the Chapel." "A Cappella" music is "Of the Chapel" music; it is in church buildings. Logically then, instrumental music is not found in church buildings. So, if there is an instrument added to worship, it is not the church; the worship is vain (empty of meaning) teaching man's words.
