What do you like about this subject?  In more than 20 years of performing Ophthalmic surgery, no surgery gives me the satisfaction that LASIK does. To see the patients smile the morning after surgery is worth all the hard work that i put in to become an expert in the field
Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:  The basic procedure of surgery under a flap as in LASIK is nothing new. It was first done by Dr barraquer in Columbia in 1949!!! The difference being that in days gone by the corneal shaping was done by a steel blade. And now it is also done by a blade too... but a blade of light So you see, we have follow up on some of these eyes for a half century now... This should allay the fears of those
What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?  We are now working on the correction of Presbyopia. If that pans out, we will be able to help correct reading glass vision in the elderly. It is very exciting.
