Expertise: Do you find yourself stuck in your home, unable to go out or only able to go out with company. Have you been like this for years and would you like to change it. I can't offer any guarantees, but I can certainly help you to look at some of the things that you are doing that may be helping the situation or making it worse. In my experience, a systematic approach is generally required to successfully challenge a condition like agoraphobia and it is the development of such an approach that I can use my skills and experience to help you with.
Experience in the area I have taken a particular interest in the anxiety and avoidance issues that many people experience. It is such a debillitating condition that even the slightest change often makes a huge impact in psychological wellbeing.
In my experience, agoraphobia is often symptomatic of a deeper anxiety issue - most commonly panic disorder or social phobia. The agoraphobia usually comes later as a way of managing the distress associated with the threat of panicking in public or having to interact socially in an unstructured way.
I am currently aiming to develop a standardised intervention which progressively challenges the thoughts, feelings and behaviours associated with agoraphobia and hopefully enables people to be able live their lives with a little more freedom.
