Expertise

I can answer questions dealing with preparing for birth, childbirth classes, pregnancy, doulas, VBAC, natural childbirth, cesarean birth, interventions in labor, labor, birth, helping someone through labor, concerns or fears about labor and birth, doulas, breastfeeding, and other topics dealing with pregnancy, labor, and birth.

Experience in the area

Since 2004, I have taught childbirth education classes focused on helping couples gain confidence, make decisions for their birth, and give them tools for helping them get the birth they want. Since 2004, I have also attend births in local hospitals as a birth doula (as of 8/10, I have attended 120 births) , so I am able to see firsthand what is working in helping couples deal with labor. I am a mom of five children.

Organizations

I am a Lamaze-certified childbirth educator as well as a DONA-certified birth doula.

2012-05-16 What could this be?:

I know it's difficult to wait, but I would give it a week after your last HPT and if you are still experiencing symptoms to take one more test.  If that test is negative, you are almost 100% not pregnant

2012-05-04 Pain in lower left abdomen.:

It sounds like ligament pain; as your baby gets bigger sometimes there is stretching or pulling on the ligaments that can cause pain, usually just on one side.     You can try ice on that area or heat

2012-04-28 2 due dates 2dads???:

Earlier ultrasounds are more accurate at predicting the sex of the baby; an 18 week ultrasound can be off.    Because your first ultrasound was at 13 weeks, that would generally bethe more accurate one

2011-07-21 No labor pains:

Labor can occur anywhere from two weeks before to two weeks after her due date.  It is very normal to still be pregnant and not in labor three days after your due date.    The best thing to do, as long

2011-07-14 confused whose the father:

Because you had intercourse with two different men during the time period when it is the most likely that you conceived, either one of them is likely to be the father. Because you were with the other man
