What do you like about this subject?

I'm a typical dog nerd. My home is maintained for the comfort and security of my dogs! I am in awe of them, not as tiny humans, but as the wonderful canine species that they are. They are my friends, my family, my dogs.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

I am continually learning everything I can, and I go broke on books, seminars, and DVD's!

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

Dogs do not live in packs with one "alpha male" and "alpha female". Their social groups are a lot more fluid, and the so-called "dominance theory" is not very useful with them.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

I don't "whisper" - I TRANSLATE. My methods are modern, scientific, and dog friendly. If you believe that a dog needs to be "shown who's boss" or "corrected" into behaving, you need to find another expert. If you believe in a trusting, fair, and respectful relationship with your dog that still puts you in charge, then fire away - I'm happy to help.

2012-03-27 dog behavior:

If he's barking at you indoors, you should not yell or bother with timeouts.  You may accidentally be giving him the attention he was seeking and he'll never stop.  Also, it is dangerous to leave a dog

2012-03-24 Feisty Golden Retriever Puppy:

Unfortunately, you may be increasing aggression in your puppy by using that pinch collar.  She is in self-defense mode now.  I would never use any trainer who puts a prong on a puppy.  First of all, studies

2012-03-19 Dog Incontinence Problem?:

If the behavior started when the house guest arrived, it would be a very highly unusual coincidence for incontinence to begin at the same time.  Incontinence is when a dog cannot control their bladder

2012-03-18 Chow Chow anxiety:

Any behavior change of this type warrants a visit to the veterinarian.  There are many things that could be happening.  She may be seeking a cool place, or she may feel the need to urinate and not be able

2012-03-15 Older dog and New Puppy:

It's never too late to train a dog, but trainers who use "dominance theory" are using an outdated and incorrect philosophy and should read this: http://petindustryportal.com/position-statement-dominance-theory-animal-training
