Expert Profile: David Dickeson, A.S.

Expertise:  At age 33, I began to worry about "turning 40." I decided to do something - anything! - before I was 'over the hill' in life and health. I figured that once you turn "age 40," life was 'over,' and you spend the next 40 years rapidly aging and "falling apart." If you were lucky, the 'blessing' of death would come before it was too late!! I am now 56 (May, 08!) and I am enjoying life more than I ever had. How wrong - mentally - I was! When I became STRONGER - physically - everything got better for me. "Growing old" is NOT a 'natural process.' It is a terrible disease you have to FIGHT each day.
Proper exercise is the answer to "aging well." I have been exercising for 23 years and I have 'first-hand' experience at to what works, and what does not. Especially for older people like myself. Good health does NOT come from sitting in a stuffed chair, 'weightlifting' by lifting soup cans and watching "Murder She Wrote..." This was advised to me by a federal agency for aging seniors! GIVE me a BREAK!! You can also find me on Allexperts under weightlifting and "how to get what you want in life."

What do you like about this subject?  The fact that I do NOT look like a 'typical' NOW 56-year-old man. I live in a community with a LOT of retirees and, honestly - they look physically AWFUL!! I am big; 6-2" tall, massive (273 pounds, I wear a XXL shirt) and very strong (I pick up fire hydrants at work - can YOU do that?). Do you want health and happiness, or be a physical wreck?
What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?  On my last day of life, to be as big and strong as I am today. I look FORWARD to turning age 70, 80, 90, and older. "Come-on age 120!" Then you can 'plasticize" my complete body (no cutting, please) and put me on display in a museum. I want people - forever - to say 'damn he looked good...'
Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:  Anyone can do what I do. I have taught 5-year-olds how to do this. And I have taught 90-year-olds how to do this. All it takes is a few minutes of your time each day. And you DO NOT NEED A GYM.
Something controversial or provocative about this subject  Because it is easy to do, many people do not even TRY to do this. Why do things have to be complicated to actually work? And you will NOT achieve any of this by taking a over-the-counter pill!!
