Costa Rica is a peacefull green country with perfect climate most of the year and friendly people that like foreigners, eleven different climates where good deals can still be found.
There is a lot of misinformation given by people with not enouph knowledge on the subject and by expats that spread rumors without really knowing the laws and proceedures.

You will need to apply for residency, you will most likely have the same medical benefits you have now, there are several private hospitals that you will need to contact to find out exactly what is covered
Basically they require you to take a course which is given a two or three times a year. The fees for the course is about $300 and takes about a week to comlete, the monthly dues are approximately $50

Joe: Coastal areas are always more expensive but around that area there will be some properties near the coast that are within your price range. Maritime zone is possible but might be more expensive
