Expertise: I currently teach English at the University of New Mexico, where I am pursuing graduate work in Professional Writing. I am one of a small group of teachers who teach completely online. I can help educators find the perfect digital match for their classroom--whether their school offers an online course supplement such as WebCT (used at UNM) or not.
I can not answer technical questions about specific software programs, such as Blackboard or even WebCT. What I can do is help you find creative ways to use the programs available online to create a stronger class community, improve writing skills, and encourage participation.
Experience in the area In my college English classrooms--both on and off line--I have incorporated class and individual blogging, class wikis, online discussions forums and chat rooms, pod casts and, beginning in the fall of 2008, will begin video casting as well.
Publications I am currently working on a scholarly paper on the use of a class-owned blog to develop a classroom community. I hope to present this paper at a conference in 2009.
Education/Credentials I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Marketing with a minor in Journalism from New Mexico State University. I am currently pursuing a Masters Degree in English: Professional Writing from the University of New Mexico and will continue with a PhD in Rhetoric and Technology.
For many years I owned an advertising and public relations company in Texas and New Mexico. I have designed, built and maintained web sites for many years, and continue to work deeply with the internet as I move from the private sector to the field of education.
