Because Linux / Computers / Hardware / Networking is never ending I enjoy the new challenges each and every day that I deal with and the main thing to learn is how to figure out the answer to something new.
You can run just about any Windows / Microsoft program on Linux.

To submit several jobs at once you do it like this: Job one is: cp /home/tomatoes /home/ Job two is: sudo apt-get update So to combine them both and do them at the same time cp /home/tomatoes

Ok, this problem can happen from time to time. As root or sudo do the following in your home directory to give yourself permissions to do whatever you want, or do this in another directory if you need
Your issue is not Ubuntu, or how to get the CD drive to work with UBUNTU. Your problem is getting the drive to work with that computer. Make sure your jumper settings are correct and that it's plugged
