I can answer your questions related to Car Auctions in the UK. This will relate to Used Cars (but not salvage auctions or Police auctions). For example; How they work, how to buy a car at auction, how much the auction will charge in buyers fees on top of the Hammer price, advice about the strengths and weaknesses in this approach to buying a used car, the savings possible, and what to watch out for. I can also arrange for you to join a Professional Buyer at auction in England, Scotland or Ireland should you feel this is best for you.

Experience in the area

I have been a professional buyer for the retail motor trade since 1979. I was a senior buyer for a large car supermarket in the UK with a stock consisting of 2000 cars mainly purchased from Auction.

I am currently the senior partner at We are car auction experts and supply 1000s of cars per year to the retail motor trade and the general public who can also join one of our Professional Buyers at Auction for a day.

I am a graduate with a BA(Hons)degree.

Past/Present Clients

Private customers can obtain a Trade Price car from us. We supply car retailers large and small. We buy for Main agents/Dealerships.

What do you like about this subject?

Everyone has an opinion. I have also been Driving since I was a teenager and I still love it. If you don't then you must be doing something wrong?

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

Helping the Public to buy good quality X-company/fleet cars at the Trade Price. Can what we do be done on a larger scale?, we are working hard to answer this question.

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

Auctions are an important part of the Supply Chain. If all houses were sold by a handful of agents, not knowing who they were would not be very sensible. Particularly when the one you don't know is the cheapest.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

Why do people think that all car retailers are crooks? If the house you bought kept going down in value you would not be very happy either. Lets understand 'Depreciation', and the nature of the product in question. Cars have a shelf life and will need to be replaced at the end of that life. I must point out that we are Wholesalers not retailers. We supply cars to order at the Cost Price.
