Experience in the area
I have all their albums and some side project rekkords. I travelled all the way to France just to see them play. I'm a musician so i can do some serious theoretical analysis of their work.
What do you like about this subject?
Sonic Youth is the point of no return. After giving them a chance one can listen to any music. Concepts like "weird vs. normal", "arty vs. pop", "mainstream vs. alternative" get redefined.
What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?
To complete my record collection with everything that has "Sonic Youth" written on it. To learn to play drums, guitar and other istruments (in addition to piano).
Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:
In the middle of part two of the Piece for Jetsun Dolma some girl in the crowd screams: "Thurston, I love you!"
Something controversial or provocative about this subject
The fact that they just play rock'n'roll songs, but manage to annoy the hell of almost everyone listening, and make people think that they - and all their fans - are not so sane and are soon to be hearing-impared.
