Expert Profile: Mika

Expertise:  I am an expert on the Praying Mantis. I can answer many questions about this beautiful species about but not limited to their care, behavior, and species. If you are looking to identify an unknown insect, I would strongly suggest choosing another expert. Asking me an identification question will result in a breifly researched answer and not a full response that is expert-worthy, but will end up with less information then you could get from another expert. I do not do pest control questions. Please feel free to ask me any questions about mantids!

Experience in the area
I really enjoy entomology as a hobby to do in any spare time available to me. I've researched praying mantids for a year (which may not sound so long, but I have researched ALOT more than you may imagine in that time frame) and am still researching all the time. I have had very fond feelings for them since I was about 5 years of age and have continued to love them since. The idea for me to be on AllExperts is to open my mind to new ideas about the mantis and help me research them further than ever before.

Education/Credentials
I have studied for a year very hard. I am starting to turn my hobby into an actual useful interest, and want to help many people along the way.

What do you like about this subject?  I find the praying mantis to be a beautiful creature. I am fascinated with the way they live and act!
What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?  I wish to learn everything there is to know about mantids and perhaps discover something nobody had known before- and if that ever happens, things come with practice, so why not help people along the way?
Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:  Did you know that there is some of martial art formd inspired by the praying mantis? The way they grab their prey and hold it as they eat fascinated people into creating an entire new fighting style. The mantid's lightning fast grab is actually faster then the human brain can comprehend. Some mantids are capable of catching and eating fish, birds, and small mammals.
