BA History (High Honors)

What do you like about this subject?

European history is the record of how diverse peoples have interacted, created and resolved conflicts, and managed to create a civilization that influences the entire world.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

I hope to better understand why Europe and Western civilization came to dominate the world.

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

Many of the names for geographic areas in Europe are derived from the names of the Germanic tribes who settled or originated in them: France=the Franks, Bulgaria=the Bulgars, Lombardy=the Lombards, Alscace=Alemanni, Burgundy=Burgundians, Poles=Poland, etc.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

World War II may never have begun if England, France, and the US had prevented Hitler from violating the Treaty of Versailles. Is the lesson there that leaders and countries that violate international law should be punished by the global community before they become greater threats?
