What do you like about this subject?  History provides insight into human nature.
What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?  History is never a dead subject. New information is always being revealed, and old information is being reinterpreted. So, trying to understand the past is a constant challenge.
Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:  As a young boy, future president Woodrow Wilson saw Confederate President Jefferson Davis being captured by Union soliders.
Something controversial or provocative about this subject  History is not an objective description of what happened. Rather, history is a compilation of past events filtered through the mind of a person, and is therefore influenced by that person's personal biases. So, history is an art as well as a science.
