I will answer questions dealing with home improvement. My specific areas of expertise are flooring (except carpeting), all types of carpentry, water treatment, and minor electrical. I have also built several treehouses and am currently considering expanding my business to concentrate on children's play areas. I love working with all kinds of wood. My favorite types of home repair/remodeling are water treatment, hardwood flooring, cabinetry, bathroom remodeling, and kitchen remodeling. I also have knowledge in residential water treatment, including filters, softeners, reverse osmosis systems and various other types of treatment systems.
I have been working in various forms of construction both personally and professionally for the past 20 years. I am currently the Owner/Contractor of a home repair/remodeling company.
I have a BS in Environmental Engineering and have done Masters work in Management Development. I have also attended various community college and fine arts classes in the Piedmont Triad area and EPA water quality certification classes.
I love working with my hands. I find satisfaction in making the environment where I live very comfortable, inviting and appealing. I have always enjoyed learning new things and I have found that home improvement and repair has a wealth of "learning" opportunities.
Everything I don't already know. I try to learn something new each day. I will never reach a point in my life where I can sit back and say that I have achieved everything I want to in my life and now I'm going to relax.
Do you know that you can put in your own treatment system in your home that will give you essentially pure water for a fraction of the cost of bottled water. A typical reverse osmosis system for home drinking water costs less than $300 and is relatively easy to install yourself. In addition it is very "green" by reducing the number of plastic bottles in our landfills.

Hi Ron, You have a very unusual setup at that door. I have never seen it. I would think that you need to get a carpenter (or maybe you can make it) to make a beveled transition piece to fill that gap
HI Ron, OK, but I would still staple the parquet if it was my floor. As far as where to start that's a personal choice I think in this case. It's hard for me to say without looking at the setup. I
Hi Ron, Is this the same Ron that I am answering a hardwood floor question floor? If so, it's OK but we could have combined them. No problem - just keep going the way we are now. My question is this:
Hi Tom, I can't finish your answer until tomorrow (Wed) night or Thursday, depending on how things go tomorrow. As you may or may not know we are volunteers and my other job calls - I have to be out early
Hi Ron, How are you going to secure your floor? Nail, float or glue? The reason I am asking is that I would not try to nail a hardwood floor over an existing oak parquet floor. There are potential problems
