Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:  Gemstones have been treated for a very long time. Documentation about gemstone treatment goes back to the first century. Heat treatment is one of the most widespread treatments in the industry today and is also generally accepted among consumers if it is disclosed properly.
Something controversial or provocative about this subject  One of the most provocative topics in gemology today is gemstone treatments and proper disclosure. When you buy a gemstone, most likely you want to know if the color and appearance are natural or whether they have been helped along by man. Consumers are becoming increasingly knowledgeable about gemstone treatments and this has caught some retailers and wholesalers unaware.
What do you like about this subject?  Gemology is as old as society and as new as the latest treatment method. It is a field which requires constant education if one hopes to stay current. I enjoy treasure and I like being surrounded by it and learning about it and helping others choose the stone that they love or that their customer will love.
What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?  I will expand my business and education, and will work toward multiple goals in publishing both online and in scientific journals. I also want to expand my network of academic associates and my customer base. I particularly enjoy working with individual collectors and retailers.
