Retouching is a full-time adventure for me. I use Adobe Photoshop almost every day of the year and enjoy working with photos quite a bit. I do not shoot. I only work on photos that are already made.

Davey, you are experiencing a common problem which can cause you alot of frustration. I think the the software and hardware you are using is fine. 300 dpi is good. Also make sure your file format is TIF
