Expert Profile: Beverly Stone

Expertise:  I am happy to answer any questions as they relate to musical theater training. I have first hand knowledge of the length and extent of training needed to work professionally on Broadway and in other professional theater. My specialty is working with kids and teens who are interested in musical theater.

Experience in the area
I have been involved in training kids and teens in acting, singing and dancing for the past 10 years. As the president of a not-for-profit professional children's stage choir, I have advised children and implemented their training to become professional musical theater actors and actresses. Several of "my kids" are currently on Broadway. Many others are currently attending Performing Arts Colleges (my son is one of them). I have been the producer of eight stage productions.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?  I am constantly expanding my knowledge in regard to training for professional theater work. I publish a Website - www.musical-theater-kids.com , and I need to provide information that my readers need. I hope to learn more as time goes on so that I can pass my knowledge along to the kids who depend on me.
Something controversial or provocative about this subject  The trend on Broadway in the last few years is to use actors who are also musicians. Both "Company" and "Sweeney Todd" were produced this way in the last few years. Some people believe that this is a trend that will continue. There are those who feel that although this cuts costs for the producers of the show, it takes jobs away from musicians and should not be done.
What do you like about this subject?  I love to help kids develop their talent and then work to achieve their dreams. There is nothing more fulfilling in life than to work doing something that you are passionate about.
