Expertise

With 25+ years experience, I can answer questions with regard to residential and light commercial heating, air conditioning, ventilation and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) issues. Please don't be offended if I won't help you do something that is dangerous or not legal for a homeowner to do. Sorry, but I don't do oil, boiler, fridge or appliance repair questions.

Experience in the area

I have 25+ years in the industry as a Service Technician, Service Manager, General Manager and Owner. I have also worked on the manufacturing side of the industry as an instructor/trainer, in production, troubleshooting, warranty administration and design of HVACR systems)

What do you like about this subject?

We spend so much time in our homes and so much money on buying and keeping them up that it just doesn't make sense for us to be uncomfortable in the places we live. Problems that make homes uncomfortable or expensive to keep at reasonable temperatures really can almost always be fixed.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

Learning more is what keeps this fun and interesting. I am always interested in learning something new and take every opportunity I can to become more educated.

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

The cooling, heating and ventilating system in your home is often the most expensive single system that is part of your home. Throughout its life it will consume more in utilities and repair costs than any other portion of your home. Make sure you take great care of it!

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

Installing a system that is oversized or too large can actually cost you more to run, make your home more uncomfortable, and shorten the life of the system.

2007-12-01 replace electric baseboard heaters w/ furnace:

Blaine, You are fortunate to live in such a beautiful area. I lived in Everett in the 80's. I would get rid of the baseboard heaters quickly, and probably replace them with a forced air system, especially

Don, If the ducts have dampers that will allow the air to be adjusted then you will not find them behind screws. They should look something like this: http://www.jerair.com/reddamp.html or this:
