Expertise

I am knowledgeable in all aspects of growing roses, especially their disease problems. I can also help with organic growing of roses.

Experience in the area

I have grown roses for over 50 years, worked in a rose nursery in the Pacific Northwest and now, thanks to retirement, have managed to stuff over a 800 roses into an acre of land.

Organizations

Vice president of a large garden club.

Publications

Have written the modern and antique FAQs for Gardenweb. Answered Questions on AllExpert when it first started and have a rose information website with photographs which is still being expanded. www.theoldrosarian.com

Education/Credentials

I studied under a British Rosarian in regards to rose history, blood lines, identification, breeding, diseases and propagation.

What do you like about this subject?

I like the fact that there are so many different shapes and colours in the roses.

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

Roses are like people, plus they also have bloodlines like people, so a rose can have a personality, such as, doesn't like wind, hates sandy soil or prefers a warm climate. Even bugs can be only attracted to specific named rose.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

Many books on roses have not kept up with the modern ways of caring for them. Commercial rose growers have proved that many rose myths are still alive and well. Modern rose breeders are doing a first rate job is producing many disease resistant and easy to care for roses.
