Expert Profile: Christine Karr

Expertise:  An experienced female sport bike rider, with many miles of touring under my belt - both in the States and in Europe, I can answer questions related to motorcycle safety and riding tips. I don't work on my motorcycle mechanically, so no repair tips - other than breakdowns on the road. On that topic, anyone who has taken motorcycle vacations would have experience.

Experience in the area
I have been riding my own motorcycle for more than 15 years. Every year, I take at least two two-week vacations, by motorcycle.

Organizations
AMA, private motorcycle touring group

What do you like about this subject?  I love the experience of riding my own motorcycle - there is nothing quite like the feeling.
What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?  I would like to take one of the more experienced riding courses on dirt bikes, where you learn how to "fall" correctly.
Something controversial or provocative about this subject  I find it fascinating that many men still believe that women do not belong on motorcycles, as riders.

2008-07-30  general questions for new rider Hi Chris - good question - that's an issue that requires a multi-factorial answer. First, you probably were taught about the "friction zone," in your motorcycle safety class. You need to practice over...
2008-07-14  Choosing a bike Clay - I do understand your dilemma. Personally, I would not purchase a bike that I cannot test drive, especially at the prices of the HD models you are considering. I would find another dealer, or would...
2008-07-13  when to shift gears Michael - You shouldn't need a tachometer to know when to shift gears, and while your system of keeping an eye on the speed is ok, it doesn't really take into consideration others facts that may affect...
