Hi Sharon, I actually live in La Manzanilla with is 1.5 hours north of Manzanillo. When you arrive by air in Vallarta you'll need to take a Taxi to PV's Central Camionero, or Central Bus Station

I've crossed the border at Agua Prieta, then cut across to Hermosillo, Guaymas, and made it to Navoja the first night. Second day left Navoja early and got to San Blas, next day into La Manzanilla.
I'm afraid I've never driven from Tuscan. I suggest you get a Guia Roji road map and stay on the toll roads.
