Ask A Question

Aloha, I can answer I would say about 99 % of all questions relating to Hawai`i.

Experience in the area

I work for tour agencies as a tour guide so have a wonderful island experience especially from the view of travelers and newcomers to the islands. I am also a high school language teacher.

What do you like about this subject?

Hawai'i is paradise and I want to make sure others who visit our islands get the best experience possible.

What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?

It is so interesting to read the questions others have and sometimes, even I learn something new!

Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:

There is more to Hawai'i than people think, not just Hula in banana leaf skirts ( which by the way are NOT used for Hula skirts ) and Waikiki. We have a wonderful people and culture that we are proud to call our own.

Something controversial or provocative about this subject

Hawai'i is a state within the States. We belong to the USA yet allow and challenge ourselves to be very different than the rest of our beloved country.

Aloha Jer,    Kaena Point is a good hike, so is Diamond Head.    As for beaches, the ones I prefer are North Shore and also Waikiki in front of the Moana. Then of course there are all the beautiful ones

2016-09-05 Visiting parents:

Aloha Jer,    Welcome to Hawaii.   How nice to have your family come and visit :-)    I am not sure if your parents are in good health and want to go on hikes, swim or rather shop and do "easy" stuff.

2016-02-20 Translate Hawaiian word:

Aloha Puai,    The word olea alone has no meaning.  There is ole which means conch shell  then there is oleha which means dazzled also drunk    not sure what you want to say  Can you give me the context

2016-02-12 Burial of ashes:

Aloha Jean,    Sorry for the late reply. I hope you are healthy and only planning this in many many years to come.  Yes ashes can be scattered on the beaches in Hawaii. Usually people do it at sunrise

2015-09-21 Hawaiian Funeral Etiquette:

Aloha again,    Sorry I only received this question today.  There is no funeral etiquette per se, meaning it depends on the beliefs and family traditions of the deceased.  Sometimes people will gather
