Something controversial or provocative about this subject  There are many snake oil salespeople out there and I for one wish to keep my patients informed about such charlatans. Too many "quacks" are bilking money and even causing physical and/or mental harm from those uninformed and/or desperate people. For sound herbal medical advice read my book.
What do you like about this subject?  Prevention of disease through education is by far the greatest gift a physician can give a patient. Curing the sick is our obligation, but education to prevent illness should be something every doctor must strive to achieve. I pride myself in being able to do this for my patients.
Something interesting about this subject that others may not know:  If you are taking a cholesterol lowering medication in the HMG-coA reductase class (statin drugs) than you should also be taking Coenzyme Q10. Statins (used in traditional medicine) deplete the body of endogenous coQ10 (nutritional medicine). A FACT that MOST Physicians today DON'T KNOW or refuse to admit. That is a pearl that can save your life.
What do you still hope to achieve/learn in this field?  A better understanding of Integrative Medicine. I want my patients to benefit from as much knowledge of medicine as possible. Many modalities such as herbal medicine, therapeutic massage therapy and acupuncture are still relatively new to the West and have much to offer. They should never take the place of allopathic western medicine.
