If it has spread to her liver it is now by definition a stage 4 cancer. Such cancers are at present incurable unfortunately. But they may be put under control for a longer or shorter time by chemotherapy
Well, there is a definite family history with colon cancer here so that is probably the bigger problem. Why not start now when her risk probably is lower? That would make the procedure less dramatic. Your

Yes the problem would probably be more permanent. At your age your bowel cancer risk is small too but it is not 0. So to be on the safe side let a doctor - preferably a gastro-enterologist - check you!
