2008-02-02Robert8101010NoThank you for the information. Yes,I have tried plugging directly into the wall socket and another surge protector. There is till no power to my tower. I did remove the box inside the tower that the power cord plugs in to and then looked for any obvious signs of electrical blow-out but saw nothing. I did get a spark when I touched two C battery shaped objects but that was all. I really appreciate your time and help. sincerely, Robert

2008-01-07jack10101010YesI have since found out this model DV4000 has a known system board flaw for many boards. It has to do with cold solder joints on the South Bridge Array Intel chip. It requires a reflow to fix. I have returned the system board for replacement. Do a google on "HP dv4000 south bridge" for details.
2008-01-07Cheryl10101010NoI am undecided what to do about the battery. If for some reason the battery is defective I'm wondering if it can harm my laptop.
