2009-11-10Andy107108NoWent to post a follow up, but the author was suddenly unavailable. The answer was useful, if not fully explained and my whole question was not discussed. Of course I'm happy overall for great service. Just a bit frustrating to be so close, but still muddling over it! Thanks
2009-11-09Terrence10101010Yesyou have done a wonderful job. thanks for your help though it dint solve my problem. I am having characters (words) that are different and i was trying to make some matches so that the best match can pull the values from the second excel to the first. I understand that it is not possible. Any thanks for your response

2009-10-29Tim10101010YesNot the answer i wanted but it solved my problem. Sometimes you can not do what you exactly want. You saved me many hours by telling me what I wanted to do was not possible, had to do it another way. Thanks for saving me lots of time.

Terrific answer; would never have known how to do that on my own...if I get confused may contact you further....will probably try it out sometime in the next ten days to make sure I can do it....I get the general gist of what you are saying but am not an Excel expert.

2009-10-20Endre871010YesThank you very much for quick response! The only thing I didn't catch, was how to repeat this index for several cells downwards. When I tried to copy the cell, it just reffered the index to the cell above (D2:G2, D3:G3) instead of constately the cells at the top (D1:G1). So I had to manually copy the formula into every cell...
2009-10-17Robert10101010NoYa found the answer to my problem. cheers!

2009-10-12Tim10101010NoThanks very much for your help. After years of Excel use, VBA macros and VB/VB.NET programming, sometimes I can't see the obvious for the allure of elegance. I did have some fun with array formulas and other methods prior to submitting my question to you. I appreciate the AllExperts site and will return often to peruse the questions and answers. - Tim

2009-09-10Clint1010710YesMr. Bill Hermanson's comments were clear, accurate & concise. Response was directive & instructional; easily understood. Instructor was easily reached even after question answered, citing follow-up responses. Overall: excellent instruction. Thanks, Bill!
2009-09-04John10101010YesThanks Bill, The most difficult part of Excel is recognising the name of the function that will perform the task required. As with most of the Excel functions I have encountered, MATCH and INDEX are quite logical and straightforward. If only there was a full list of Excel functions (and a simple explanation of their purpose) online. Regards, John
2009-09-03Joyce10101010YesThanks - this works! I am impressed with the speed, and efficiency. Joyce
