2009-08-19Marilyn7101010YesThank you Robert for your advice. However, I have found little direction, not even short cuts on how to remove the varnish. There are some articles, one by James Hamm, a professor in the art conservation, who believes a painting roughly 15 years old, is too young a painting, and the oils will not be hard enough to resist the solvents required to dissolve the varnish. I appreciate your time answereing my question.
2009-08-03Ashley10101010YesRobert, Thanks so much for your great response, and in more than enough time for me to follow your advice! I really appreciate your help. Best, Ashley
2009-07-22Kiki910610NoThanks for helping me! Mr. Vincent is very polite, concise, and nice with answers. I'm sorry about the low rating in Timeliness; I had to resend both of my 2 questions after the 3-day-no-answer period, but the answers came a day after resending.

2009-07-17Robert10101010YesThank you so much for your response to my questions. As not having very much information about the paintings, this has help my mom out in many ways. Both her parents died in 1950's and not very much information was known about the watercolor painting. Again thank you very much for your time and answers.

2009-03-26ken9101010YesAlthough we did not arrive at an answer, it was probably a lack of insufficient information on my part. Robert was polite and responsive; a nice man to converse with. Ken

2009-02-26Rachel10101010YesThank you so much for your response. I have a few cans of this varnish on order and hopefully it will work out. I forgot to mention the many drip marks that were left from the varnish. I removed some and painted over others. I may have ruined it, but we'll see... Thanks! Rachel

2008-11-19K1010510NoThanks, Robert! When I didn't receive an answer last week, I asked a lecturer at the MFAH on the weekend... he said the French used that term for any "spirit" type of medium that evaporated very quickly; for instance, they sometimes used gasoline for the thinner!! (Yikes!) Turpentine, as you said, was also commonly used; sometimes alcohol or other quick evaporating liquid as well.
